7 October 2014
Bill Flanagan was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Individual LCA Leadership Award from the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA). The honor took place at the group’s annual conference on October 7, 2014, in San Francisco.
“Each year, the LCA Awards highlight the individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to accelerate and innovate the science and implementation of LCA,” said Rita Schenck, former Executive Director of ACLCA. “The LCA awards showcase the talent, dedication and sheer drive of leaders in life cycle assessment who have made a true impact on the field of LCA and environmental sustainability.”
Bill Flanagan formed GE’s Ecoassessment Center of Excellence in 2007. The Center was founded to assess the environmental impacts of products throughout their entire lifespan, from raw materials extraction through reuse, recycling, or disposal at the end of product life. The team worked with the various GE businesses and the GE Ecomagination leadership team to support GE’s product and technology sustainability strategies, applying a variety of tools and approaches including environmental life cycle assessment, life cycle management, and eco-design/design for environment. The team’s leading-edge activities played a key role in helping GE enhance its environmental sustainability, thought leadership, and sustainable business strategies. The work spanned technical application, strategy development, business applications, and policy support. Bill has also been highly engaged in the international LCA community, helping to advance knowledge, strategy and application of LCA globally, particularly through his leadership and nurturing of industry best practices in LCA.
The American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) is a nonprofit membership organization providing education, awareness, advocacy and communications to build capacity and knowledge of environmental LCA. ACLCA membership consists of industry, academia, government, consulting, and NGOs.
